Course Overview:

This ACA Assessment Course is designed to evaluate a participant’s ability to perform all of the skills listed along with demonstrating an appropriate level of knowledge. This assessment course provides the participant with the opportunity to receive documentation of having achieved a certain level of paddling skills ability.

Assessment Course Prerequisites

Course Location / Accessible Venues:

Sandy beach with moderate surf, mostly spilling waves with occasional steeper (plunging) waves during sets, with access to flat, protected water.

Note: When selecting a venue, careful consideration should be given to hazards including other surfers, rip currents, long- shore drift, rocks, and human-made structures.

Course Duration:

One Day (8 hours) minimum.

Course Size:

5 Participants : 1 Instructor; with an additional qualified assistant, the ratio can be 10 : 2.

Assessor:

This assessment course may be offered by Level 3: Surf Kayaking ACA Instructors, Instructor Trainers, or Instructor Trainer Educators.

Course Outline:

The sequence of assessment should be adjusted to best fit the participant’s needs, class location, time allowance, and craft being used. Participants must be able to perform all strokes, maneuvers, rescues, and skills in the appropriate venue. In addition, the participant must demonstrate the appropriate level of knowledge for this level of skill assessment.
